Irving Matute

Meet Irving Matute, an amazing human being and powerlifter from Plymouth, Indiana. Irv started out playing football & soccer after school like a lot of people, but it wasn’t until he hit a 415 lb squat at the age of 15 that he discovered his passion for lifting.

After a three-month trip to Tanzania in 2023, he came home with a clearer mind and fully committed to powerlifting. He’s since totaled 1,542 lbs in competition, but what he’s most proud of is how he’s pushed through self-doubt, injury, and other life struggles to keep moving forward. Irv has encountered a lot of doubters on his journey, people waiting to say “I told you so” or “you can’t do it!”, but he’s learned to turn negativity into fuel to prove himself right.

Outside of lifting, Irv is always looking for ways to grow, whether through music, intentional reflection, or learning about technology and how it can bring people together. For Irv, it’s not just about lifting heavy, it’s about building a life full of meaning, resilience, and possibility.
